We’ve been so blessed lately, I could probably turn this blog into a gratitude journal and have fodder for at least a month, perhaps two, without anything additional happening to us. I’m not saying all of life is perfect, but we have had so many good people and circumstances happen to let that get us down!
One extra surprise happened today when Si brought home the mail.
You see, last week we received a bill from a laboratory for $261.50 {lovely prenatal blood tests}. I gasped when I first saw it, but then I realized that the lab hadn’t billed our insurance. That comforted me. I figured that our insurance would at least pay 30% or so {my figuring wasn’t based on actually reading the plan, just the audacity of hope}.
So I filled out the little form that said “please bill my insurance” with all the pertinent information and sent it in.
Today, the form came back.
On it was written a little note. It said:
[Your insurance company] paid this! $0.00 balance.
She even added a smiley face at the end.

Wonderful news! After First Daughter was born, we got a bill that had the charges added and removed twice each and a zero balance. I called to ask because I knew it hadn’t been paid by us or the insurance company and the accounting department said “You have a zero balance.” So we didn’t have to pay the baby’s bill at all! (We still had my bill, which was by far the larger, but still!)
This is great! I’ve had similar trouble with a lab bill– I’ve had to call the doctor’s office / lab at least three times after receiving the exact same bill (for $400!) at least three times and being told at least three times that it should be 100% covered and would be taken care of. It’s difficult to get stuff taken care of when people aren’t doing their jobs correctly. You have to stay on top of these things, I guess. I look forward to the day that bill comes back with “you pay $0.00″…. Meanwhile, I’m happy for you guys! =)
I love stories like this!
Brandy-
I just went in for prenatal blood tests this morning. They ended up taking 5 tubes of blood and I had to pee in a cup. That’s the last time I let my PCP doctor and my midwife put their heads together and decide what tests they are going to do on me. Sheesh! At least the insurance is paying for all of it. 🙂
I’m glad you guys are being blessed. Go God! 🙂
