The Darndest Things: Another Way Motherhood is Scary

February 10, 2009 by Brandy Vencel

Yesterday morning, I had a conversation with Siah that went like this:

    Me: What a night!

Him: Why? What do you mean?

Me: I just didn’t get very much sleep, even though nobody woke me up. I woke up at 4am, scared out of my mind! I had heard a loud noise and I was convinced someone was in the house, but I didn’t want to wake you until I knew for sure.

    Him: Thanks.

Me: And then I heard one other noise, which got my heartrate going even more. And then nothing.

Later in the morning, after Si had headed off to work, I had this conversation with my daughter A.:

Her: Mommy! Guess what I did! [with big, glowing, proud smile]

    Me: What?

Her: At night, I get out my bed and I get up and I go pee all by myself. I not scared! And then I cwose my door {noise 1} and get back in bed {noise 2} all by myself!
