    7 Quick Takes

I have a pair of pearl earrings I have worn almost every normal day for fifteen years. Correction: had a pair of pearl earrings. They were good-sized pearls, and perfectly matched. At the hockey game on Saturday night, I lost them.

In a crowd of six thousand people. Boo hiss.

Needless to say, I did not find them. Usually, I think these sorts of things that I manage to do {with far too much regularity!} are funny. But I’m pretty upset about this one. I received them as a gift, and they’re not the sort of thing I can just run out and replace.

I finally found organic worcestershire sauce! I’m so excited! Normally, I’m not a stickler on the organic thing, but it seems that in order to not have weird chemicals in something, I almost have to buy it as organic. I really don’t care if my apple cider vinegar or tamari sauce is organic, just please hold the sodium benzoate, you know?

Anyhow, I did a little dance when this bottle arrived. Bonus: it tastes better than my old brand.

Every year, the children in our co-op make Valentine cards, which are later distributed to widows. Sometimes, we get a list of widows from a church. Sometimes, we know enough widows that we make a list ourselves. Either way, the mom in our group who thought this up is brilliant, and if you all are looking for a way to commemorate Valentine’s Day, this one has been a big hit.

This year, we’ve added salted brown butter cookies as a special treat, which is basically the next best thing to driving over to Paso to buy some. I like baking better if I have a distribution plan. Otherwise, the children and I eat far. too. many.

One of my New Year’s resolutions that I never shared is to take at least 10,000 steps per day. That is a pretty common goal, so I didn’t think it was worth mentioning. What is worth mentioning is that I decided I needed a treadmill if I was going to pull this off in the summer, or on a rainy day {as if it rains here, but anyway}, or if I wanted to walk during the time that the local school gets out and I’m too antisocial to take one in the neighborhood at that time, or some other excuse I think up.

    It’s a sickness, I tell you.

Anyhow, this will keep me from excuses. I got a great deal at Costco and I am excited for it to be delivered. Apparently, I can dock my iPod Nano in it and listen to podcasts while I walk. Now that? That is a bit of awesomeness I didn’t expect.

The one I bought is sort of like this one, but cheaper, and also with a longer belt.

In case I decide to pretend I can run.

O-Age-Five still needs one nap a week. I had tried playing it by ear, and putting him down on days where it was completely obvious, but because it wasn’t consistent, he soon began to fight me and/or try to negotiate. So, I decided that Wednesdays were the day. Rain or shine, Wednesday is Nap Day.

I have it on good authority that this makes me The Meanest Mommy in the World.

Some of you probably remember that A-Age-Eight’s rabbit, Thumper, passed away last month. We’ve been waiting for a litter to mature in order to buy a new one, born to the same doe as Thumper. This new one is half-lop, as you may be able to tell by the confused ears. She’s been a sweet addition to the microhomestead.

Not a whole lot has been done on the guest house this week. At least, not that you can see with your eyes. In other words, this week’s photo looks a lot like last week’s photo, except that some of the dirt piles are gone {because some trenches have been filled back in}. We do have great things planned for today and tomorrow. Today, the foundation pad is supposed to be leveled. Next, it’ll be inspected. If it passes inspection today, the concrete foundation will be poured tomorrow. So that’s exciting!

And that is all for this Friday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
