    Thoughtworthy (Summer Reading Stack, Latest Podcast, and MORE!)

    :: 1 ::

    I’m slowly building my summer reading stack. It’s got some new purchases, as well as some unread old purchases, as well as some books that I just haven’t finished yet. I always write a couple summer reading posts, and I will still do that closer to time, but for now, here’s what I’ve got:

    Beauty in the Word: Rethinking the Foundations of EducationThe Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert : An English Professor’s Journey into Christian FaithAgainst the Gods: The Polemical Theology of the Old TestamentMinds More Awake: The Vision of Charlotte MasonVittorino da Feltre and Other Humanist Educators: A History of Classical Education

    I hit a wall this week. My body dared to remind me that I am a low-energy mom. I got away with pretending I wasn’t for a number of weeks there, but the crash is always inevitable. I really can’t complain, though. Flu season was awful this year, but I managed to stay healthy, and for that I’m grateful. There was a time when I caught everything.

    Here’s the latest episode of Scholé Sisters!

    It took two attempts for Mystie and I to finally get this recorded. Determination is key, my friends.

    In other news, Scholé Sisters officially hit 10,000 listeners! I cannot tell you how excited we are about that! Turns out, the sisterhood is quite large.  Look around! There might be a sister right next to you and you didn’t even know! ♥

    I can’t believe I was writing about this six years ago. It hardly seems possible!

    Beauty in the Word is on my short list. It is the favorite education book of several of my friends, but I have never read it!

    How did you fix your health to not catch everything? My sister catches every bug and is so over being sick all the time.

      I take a homeopathic remedy that is prescribed for “catching everything.” 🙂 It’s called calcarea carbonica 200 and I take a dose once every other day. I was told to take it for a looooong time because it is a slow-acting remedy. I started it in October, I think, and I don’t recall catching anything at all over the winter, even when a couple of my children came down with really high fevers. It’s has been such a blessing!

      Homeopathy is usually best done by consulting with a homeopath rather than self-treatment, though. Just FYI. 🙂

    I am definitely adding “Beauty in the Word” to my reading list – I think you’re the fifth person this year who has recommended it 🙂 And along the vein of “The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert,” I recommend Holly Ordway’s memoir “Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms.” A university English professor (and competitive fencer!), she weaves her lifelong transformative love of reading into her journey of faith. I think you’d really really enjoy this one Brandy!

      Ooh! I have never heard of that one, Raquel! I will definitely put it on my to-buy list! ♥
