Thoughtworthy (Charlotte Mason Boot Camp, Pumpkin Spice, and MORE!)

Thoughtworthy

:: 1 ::

Only two more days to register for the autumn session of Charlotte Mason Boot Camp! Six weeks of deliberate and efficient Charlotte Mason study can make all the difference. Especially when it’s done in community with yours truly as your Drill Sergeant. Come register now before it’s too late! (Last day to register is 9/29/2018.)

True confession: I don’t actually like pumpkin spice. Unless it’s someplace it would normally be, like in a pumpkin pie. In the past, I have tried to conjure excited feelings about Starbucks autumn specialty coffees, such as Pumpkin Spice Latte, but it just doesn’t do it for me.

Of course, the high today is 97. If it were lower, that’d probably help.

What about you? Pumpkin spice, yea or nay?

I was sick last week and so I missed telling you about the latest episode from Scholé Sisters:

This month in 2015:

It’s changed a little over the years, but I still contend this little box is the Best Thing Ever.

I always love reading your emails, blogs, etc – always such good food for thought and I always find something to laugh over too (in this case, pumpkin spice! I couldn’t care less!). Your essays often challenge me in a good way. Thank you!

Hi there! Can you elaborate on how to do pre-reading with 3 different forms? How do you choose what to pre-read? I am looking for all of the advice I can get. I think you did an audio on it, but was wondering if you know of something else to read? Thank you for your inspiration! 🙂

Sure! First, I think you should know that while I *taught* four forms last year, I didn’t *pre-read* for all of them. The main reason is that I have been using AO so long that I know the books. At the very beginning, I decided that if I could keep up with pre-reading for my oldest child, it would be of great benefit to me and to ALL of my children. As the years have gone by, I’ve changed a few things — substituted a few books for my younger children. Those I usually pre-read in the summer instead of throughout the year, taking good notes since I don’t remember as well as when I read the week before.

I think if someone comes to this kind of education later on, they will have to make hard choices. I do not think it is possible to pre-read everything for multiple forms and keep your sanity and your house in order! Pre-reading with the oldest helps a lot, and then maybe choosing a few books that seem necessary for the youngers, or doing more reading aloud so that at least you have *read* the book with them, even if you didn’t pre-read it. 🙂

Sbux pumpkin spice latte – nay
Homemade bulletproof coffee with pumpkin spice and real whipped cream – oh yeah
    Pumpkin spice scones – YEAH!!!

From your link collection: I finished Wallace Stegner’s Crossing to Safety this week. One of his characters tries to model himself after the New Humanists. Having no idea who thise were, I did some reading. It turns out that they were spearheaded by Irving Babbitt, whose book “Democracy and Leadership” was a huge inspiration for none other than… Russell Kirk. How I love the science of relations!

Okay, you got me. I could probably do the scones! ♥

And your little train of influences here? WOW. I just love that!

I registered for your CM Boot Camp last year. I flunked out horribly. I really want to try again, but I’m so nervous that I’ll just do the same thing. Ugh.

Also, no to pumpkin spice. Actually, no to pumpkin. Period. Ha!

Oh no! Well, how much did you do last year? I have a few gals that have taken once or twice each year and just kept adding to how much they’ve done with each session they join!

Is there anything *I* can do on my end to help you?

Oh, no, but thank you so much for asking! I have an issue with perfectionism. I got through 2 weeks and then I missed a day, maybe 2 and just decided that since I missed those days I couldn’t finish. Sounds absolutely ridiculous typing that out, but there it is. I have gotten a lot better about giving up if I feel like I’ve messed up. I really enjoyed the first 2 weeks and they were really helpful!

So there was one spot left. I was like ok, I can do this! I’m gonna do it! I put it in the cart, did the whole check out…. someone must have been checking out at the same time cause when I hit ‘place order’ it said it was no longer available. Ha!!! I hope it’s an awesome time and I’ll definitely look for it in the future. I may even try to work through my old via the archived group. Thank you for doing the work to teach and encourage us (we?h who are coming up behind you.
